With the success of the “Coming To America” movie back in 1988, Eddie Murphy (who wrote and starred in the movie) thought it would be a good idea to make an attempt to turn it into a television sitcom with the star being a then-unknown actor named Tommy Davidson.
Knowing that the uphill battle for a Black TV producer in Hollywood to get shows greenlit was much harder at that time than it is now, the “Coming To America” sitcom had suffered one setback after the next (details of said setbacks can be found here).
While the show would never run past the pilot, the pilot itself would be dug up and started making its rounds in the internet streets.
