Jason Flemyng and Raza Jaffrey set to star in Renny Harlin’s new horror-thriller “Refuge”. Voltage Pictures acquires worldwide rights. Principal photography underway in Bulgaria.
Jason Flemyng (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”), Raza Jaffrey (“Homeland”), and Sophie Simnett (Netflix’s “Daybreak”) are set to star in acclaimed blockbuster director Renny Harlin’s (“Die Hard 2”, “Cliffhanger”) new horror-thriller “Refuge”, written by action sci-fi writer Ben Sztajnkrycer, it was announced today by Voltage Pictures’ President and COO Jonathan Deckter. Voltage Pictures has acquired worldwide rights and will introduce to buyers at the upcoming Marché du Film on June 21-25, 2021.
Produced by powerhouse executives Yariv Lerner (“Hellboy”, “Rambo: Last Blood“), Rob Van Norden (“Olympus Has Fallen“, “Rambo: Last Blood“), Revelations Entertainment Partner and Producer Gary Lucchesi (“Underworld” franchise, “The Lincoln Lawyer”), Michael McKay (“Brahms: The Boy II”), Revelations Entertainment’s CEO Lori McCreary (“Invictus”, CBS’ “Madam Secretary”), and Harlin, who have brought us some of the most successful films of recent years, “Refuge” is a Revelations Entertainment and B2Y Production. Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Deckter are executive producing.
Johanna Harlin (“Class Reunion 3”) and Aston McAuley (20th Century Fox’s “Rocketman”) have also been cast in the highly anticipated film, which is is currently shooting in Bulgaria.
Flemyng’s early credits include Guy Ritchie’s “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch”, Stephen Norrington’s “The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, and David Fincher’s Oscar-nominated “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button”. More recently, Flemyng stars in Peter Cattaneo’s “Military Wives”, television series “Pennyworth” for Warner Bros, BBC mini-series “SS-GB”, and Sky/Starz series “Save Me”.
Jaffrey had a major recurring role in Netflix’s “Lost In Space” series and will next appear in the network’s “Sweet Girl” opposite Jason Momoa. He previously appeared in Paramount Studios “The Rhythm Section” opposite Blake Lively and Jude Law; as well as Showtime’s Golden Globe-winning series “Homeland” opposite Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, and was a series regular on CBS’ “Code Black” and NBC’s “Enemy Within”.
Simnett most recently appeared in “Twist” opposite Academy Award-winner Michael Caine and Lena Heady. She also appeared in Netflix’s post-apocalyptic dramedy “Daybreak” opposite Matthew Broderick.
McCauley’s credits include the box-office phenomenon “Rocketman” opposite Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell, the Netflix limited series “Behind Her Eyes” opposite Eve Hewson, and Armando Iannucci’s “The Personal History Of David Copperfield” opposite Dev Patel, Hugh Laurie, and Tilda Swinton.
In this horror-thriller, a U.S. military veteran — Sergeant Rick Pedroni — returns home changed and dangerous after a tour of duty in Afghanistan where he suffered an attack by a mysterious force. While officials dismiss his behavior as PTSD, and order trauma therapy, Rick’s wife Kate discovers her husband has been possessed by a malevolent spirit.
