Zach Zoya announces sophomore EP ‘No Love Is Ever Wasted’ plus drops anthemic new single “Smoke & Dance”.
Today (5.11.2022), one of Montréal’s hottest new artists Zach Zoya officially unveils his next creative project with the announcement of ‘No Love Is Ever Wasted‘. The sophomore EP, arriving 6.10.2022 via 7ième Ciel Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, solidifies Zoya’s reputation as a multi-faceted artist. Over the past year, creative exploration and the curiosity to evolve both himself and his artistry sparked the inspiration for the theme of this second EP.
“The idea behind ‘No Love Is Ever Wasted’ came to me when I was going through a time of my life where some things felt like a waste of time. Learning to play a certain instrument and then giving up, starting a workout regimen and abandoning it, or even looking back on past relationships wondering if I had gained or learned anything from them,” Zoya reflects. “I was looking at the body of work I had, the songs I considered putting out next, and then this epiphany hit me: no love is ever wasted. By love I not only mean relationships, but also anything you’ve invested time and effort into hoping it would yield a certain result and then it not happening. Well, all of that is never for nothing. All that enthusiasm you’ve put out there is never lost, it’s lessons. You grow from failed relationships, you learn from unmastered skills or failed attempts. You might not know how or when it’ll come back to you, but that energy you put out there WILL come back.”
Proving his impressive versatility across genres and talents, Zoya has been sharing glimpses into the sophomore project over the past few months with an eclectic range of singles that have built anticipation of what he’ll drop next. After releasing a seductive R&B slow jam (“Feelings”), a Banx & Ranx produced nostalgic daydream (“Understand”), a stripped back collaboration with Soran (“Strangers In the House”), and a breakout melodic pop hit featuring Benny Adam which earned him his first Top 10 at Canadian radio and the title of a YouTube Trending Artist on the Rise (“Start Over”), today Zoya ups the ante again with his latest single “Smoke & Dance”. Bottling the explosive energy of his live shows, “Smoke & Dance” is a hype anthem arriving just in time for festival season.
“‘Smoke & Dance’ feels like what I want this summer to feel like – the biggest of parties,” says Zoya. “This is my come back song. This is the energy we have been missing for two years and I’m really trying to come back on stage with a bang! I’ve had the chance to perform it already while on tour with Charlotte Cardin and it has been so great so far – the energy just speaks for itself. It makes people want to move, dance, and have a good time. We had a party in the studio making it and it’s a party on stage when we perform it!”
Leading into the release of ‘No Love Is Ever Wasted’, Zach Zoya will be performing in Los Angeles for two School Night shows and in New York for an intimate show at the Ludlow House before hitting festival stages this summer including Osheaga, Montréal’s marquee festival.
About Zach Zoya:
Growing up in the small, largely French-speaking city of Rouyn-Noranda northwest of Montréal, Zach Zoya developed a diverse musical palate from his family. Introduced to African music by his South African father who fled to Canada during apartheid, and North American soul and pop music by his French-Canadian mother, Zoya was immersed in rhythms and melodies that spoke to him even when the English lyrics didn’t. Though French was both Zoya’s first language and the one more established in the Montréal music scene, he’s rapped in English from the start of his career. Raised without a computer or television in a place with minimal hip-hop culture, Zoya first honed his flows by covering records by Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and credits learning the skill of rapping with improving his delivery as an all-around vocalist. After establishing himself in the Montréal music scene by gaining the support of 7ième Ciel, a powerhouse label in French rap, collaborating with platinum producer High Klassified (Future, The Weeknd), Zoya partnered with Universal Music Canada and began releasing songs that showcased his signature blend of melodic hip-hop and emotive R&B. For his debut solo EP ‘Spectrum‘, released in October of 2020, Zoya collaborated with heavy hitting Toronto producers: GRAMMY Award winner Boi-1da, JUNO Award winner Matthew Burnett, and Multi-Platinum selling producer Don Mills, as well as UK artist, songwriter and producer Angel (Frank Ocean, Moneybagg Yo, Stefflon Don), and Montréal producers Bougo and DTRWRK. Showcasing the versatility of Zach Zoya’s artistry as a songwriter, singer and rapper, ‘Spectrum’ earned critical acclaim from many established culture outlets. Throughout 2021, Zach Zoya showcased his versatile talent by dropping singles that ranged from smooth R&B to infectious pop bangers that brought him into the Top 10 on Canadian radio charts. 24-year-old Zach Zoya has another massive summer ahead of him with upcoming festival performances including Osheaga in his home city of Montréal and the release of his anticipated sophomore EP ‘No Love Is Ever Wasted’.
