At a time when you could find a Fat Beats Records store in just about every major city in the world, they would host open mic events with live DJs included.

One of those open mic sessions happened to include Chicago emcee Common who kicked this brief but fire freestyle back in 8.1.1996 (long before he became more known for acting than rapping) which was also the grand opening day of Fat Beats’ second NYC location.
