“I’ve tried to live in New York,” says Broward County rap pioneer Robb Bank$. “I’ve tried to live everywhere in the world. It’s no place like here. Ain’t no vibe like this.” During this year’s Rolling Loud festival in Miami, Mass Appeal took a little trip to check in with Robb Bank$ and got an education in how South Florida became the new rap mecca. “XXX, Ski, Wifi—we all from the same place,” Bank$ pointed out. “I’m a Broward nigga till the day I die.” Watching this young OG flourishing amidst the new wave of Florida rap talent that he inspired was a joy to behold. Then, just as we were putting the finishing touches on this ‘Made in Broward’ mini-doc, we heard about the tragic death of Jahseh Onfroy aka XXXTentacion. We offer this piece in his memory. RIP.
