Video: @ZoeSaldana Presents #MyHero: Episode 1

Zoe Saldana is executive producing a new AOL series titled “My Hero,” which, for 10 episodes, will follow celebrities as they surprise one person from their pasts who helped change their lives, hence the title.

Saldana kicks things off in the first episode, in which she and her sisters surprise her mother. As a child growing up in the Dominican Republic, Saldana and her family faced a devastating tragedy. Her mother, her hero taught her how to stand strong in the face of adversity. The series premiered today; episode 1 is embedded below.

“We are surrounded by heroes every day and I think it’s important to shed light on them, and to say thank you,” Saldana said in a press statement. “I really find it hard to believe that there are people who succeed in life in whatever it is they want to do in … on their own.”

Julianne Hough, Maria Menounos, Michelle Monaghan, Mary Lambert and more celebs will salute their heroes in future episodes of the series.
