The Young Kingz of the UK reign triumphant
After releasing not one single track in three years, Krept & Konan have proved to fans & critics that the wait was worth it with their latest mixtape ‘Young Kingz’.
Released on September 2, 2013, the mixtape features bangers such as “Don’t Waste My Time“, “Lord Forgive Me“, & the darkly reminiscent “My Story“. It was No. 8 before reaching No. 1 in the hip-hop charts & No. 10 overall, commendable for independent UK rappers with word-of-mouth & media coverage on radio stations such as Choice, 1Xtra, & Kiss as well as websites such as SBTV, GRM Daily, & RWD as promo.
“We was literally in the studio for 3 months, we put it out, we was nervous but everyone loved it. It got so much good feedback…”.
The rap duo met as teenagers before they began rapping in 2009. Their first mixtape ‘Tsunami‘, released in 2010, sold 2000 copies with an estimated 60,000 illegal downloads. However in 2011, a YouTube video to their cover of Jay-Z & Kanye West’s “Otis” not only raised their profile, but received an amazing 5 million views in five days before Jay-Z’s legal team forced them to take it down. Since then they have covered Drake’s “The Motto“, set up their own clothing Play Dirty & this month were invited to join Skepta on his UK tour.
With a strong team & their loyal Play Dirty fan base, the duo intends to be more consistent with releasing new material.
Stay tuned for the release of Part 2 of the interview where the duo surprises one of their fans!!!
