LION BABE – the New York based duo made up of singer-songwriter and performance artist Jillian Hervey and producer and instrumentalist Lucas Goodman aka Astro Raw – have released a mesmerising and epic visual for their latest single ‘Honey Dew’. Shot in New York’s Taconic Sculpture Park and directed by Chalalai Fischbach and Jett Cain with Creative Direction from LION BABE, the hazy, cinematic clip is another stellar example of the dazzling creativity that has set the duo apart in their own league, since they first burst onto the scene with their debut track and visual for the modern classic ‘Treat Me Like Fire’.
Produced by collaborator and fellow New Yorker Simen Sez and with brand new remixes coming from OG Ron C and Seven Davis Jr, the soulful single was released last month and is taken from LION BABE’s forthcoming project which is out later this year and will also feature their previous releases ‘Rockets’ ft Moe Moks and ‘Hit The Ceiling’ which they recently performed at show-stopping sets at SXSW and will take to must-see shows at Harlow’s in Sacramento on April 9th and San Francisco’s 1015 Folsom on April 11th, before making their official debut at Coachella Festival.
Speaking on the video, LION BABE said:
“’Honey Dew’ is a visual inspired by the ethereal and commanding sculptures created by Roy Kanwit in upstate New York. Art and nature endlessly play off of each other in the song and visual. Styling and aesthetic pay homage to the late 60’s French film style and the clothing is wearable art.”
The visual follows the release of a set of brand new remixes for their two latest tracks ‘Rockets’ (feat Moe Moks) and ‘Hit The Ceiling’ which saw ‘Rockets’ (feat Moe Moks) given an urgent, Afrostep remix by mOma+Guy – which features at the end of the stunning Chalalai Fischbach and Jett Cain directed visual for the track – and a sultry and soulful update from Simen Sez, whilst ‘Hit The Ceiling’ was given an addictive dance-funk remix from Zikomo and received the remix treatment from legendary dance producer and DJ Kenny Dope.
Set to feature on their highly anticipated forthcoming project, alongside their track ‘Jump Hi’ (feat Childish Gambino), ‘Hit The Ceiling’ featured on the second season of Issa Rae’s Golden Globe nominated HBO series ‘Insecure’ and also features on the show’s official soundtrack alongside tracks from artists such as SZA, Bryson Tiller and Goldlink. Last year, the band shared the first taste of the project via the sublime ‘Rockets’ feat. Moe Moks which received first looks on Noisey and Zane Lowe’s Beats 1. The forthcoming project will be their first commercial release since the band’s critically celebrated debut studio album ‘Begin’, which was released in 2016 and featured collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Childish Gambino and career-defining tracks such as ‘Treat Me Like Fire’ and ‘Jump Hi’. Also in 2016, they released the electrifying mixtape ‘Sun Joint’ which coincided with their first headline US tour and a string of international festival performances, including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and more.
Last year, Astro Raw shared his debut mixtape project, rawmix vol 1. The 14-track project mixes Astro Raw’s dynamic, one-of-a-kind production with his infectious, genre-defying sounds, seamlessly mixing R&B, hip-hop, soul, funk and dance – creating a sound that The 405 described as “sonic crack.”. He recently dropped electric, dancefloor-ready remixes for Post Malone’s ‘Rockstar’ ft 21 Savage and Cardi B’s Grammy nominated anthem ‘Bodak Yellow’.
