There’s always a new star born in the NC hip hop scene everyday. And 24-7 Entertainment Group/Life’s Grand 24-7 (owned by Raleigh/Durham rapper Chedda Chapp) artist T. Walker (also from Raleigh/Durham) just so happens to be part of this equation. T. Walker’s album ‘The HeART Gallery‘ (which he dropped last year) adds to the equation as a diverse project that’s sure to grab of most audiences.
‘M.A.S.K.‘ (which does not appear on ‘THG‘) happens to be 1 of my favorite tracks as it it a good display of straight lyricism & concepts. ‘ATL UTI‘ takes you (as well as myself) back to a time when Outkast used to give you the real ATL on every record they did before they sold out. Another 1 of my favorite jawns is latest single ‘Thinkin’ Back‘ (also not on ‘THG‘) where Walker tells a coming-of-age story of 2 (maybe 1) young people.
Beside’s talk about weed, money, & bottle poppin’ (among other things), I can’t think of anything else I did not like about ‘THG‘. But I’ve also come to accept that as long as there’s an audience for those kinds of topics, those kinds of songs will continue to get made. Other than that, time will tell how T. Walker develops as an artist.
‘THG‘ has its ups & downs but I still enjoyed it overall as I’m listening as this review is being written. Hopefully, the next listener will enjoy ‘THG‘ as much as I did. ‘The HeART Gallery‘ is available now & you can cop it here. -Review written by DV
