Sy Smith shares her sensual new single, “Slide”, from her forthcoming full-length +FE Music debut album ‘Until We Meet Again’.

It’s been five years since Sy Smith’s acclaimed album, ‘Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete’.

After guest featuring on Zo! and Tall Black Guy’sThe Ride” (from their excellent 2021 album ‘Abstractions’), the multi-talented, Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter and actress taps her old collaborators for production on her new single “Slide”.

The song serves as the first offering from Smith’s long-awaited full-length follow-up, ‘Until We Meet Again’.

Due out in December and executive produced by Hip-hop/R&B multi-hyphenate Phonte, the album will serve as Smith’s official debut via +FE Music, the record label extension of the Grammy-nominated Alt-Soul duo The Foreign Exchange, and feature guest appearances from Sheila E. and jazz trumpeter Chris Botti.

More About Sy Smith:
Often referred to as “the hardest working woman in underground soul“, Sy Smith is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer who helped cultivate her local indie music scene.

Some of the most progressive modern indie artists to date came directly from Smith’s own band line-ups, including Thundercat and Kamasi Washington.

Smith’s catalog includes five studio albums, with contributions from producers like James Poyser of The Roots, Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and The Foreign Exchange’s Nicolay.

Smith has been heralded for her remarkable vocal range (reminiscent of the late Minnie Riperton), her whimsical cadences (often colored with a very distinctive rhythmic swing), her lyrical dexterity and knack for compelling storytelling.

She began her career as a support vocalist for Whitney Houston, Sheila E., Meshell Ndegeocello, Chaka Khan, Usher, Macy Gray, and The Rickey Minor Band (as seen on “American Idol” for six seasons and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”).

Smith eventually caught the ear of Jazz aficionados, and guest featured in live shows with Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti.

Her performance of “The Look Of Love” on Botti’s Grammy-nominated DVD “Live In Boston” has become a fan favorite, amassing nearly three million views on YouTube to date.

Jazz critics have also taken note of Smith’s live genre-bending performances (like her Jazz reworking of classic Janet Jackson songs), which often features piano, synth bass, and Sy’s live manipulation of her own vocal effects with an on-stage processor.

Smith has been nominated for two NAACP Theater Awards for best supporting actress in a comedy/musical (Michael Ajakwe’s “If You Don’t Believe: A Love Story, Body Language”).

She also has numerous television acting credits under her belt (“Ally McBeal”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “American Dad”), as well as a voice acting role as the character of Aisha on the popular video game franchise “Saint’s Row” (she also wrote and produced some of the music for the game).

Smith has an Emmy nomination for her songwriting (Best Music/Lyrics for “Welcome Back All My Soulmates” for HBO’s “Dancing In September”).
