Super Bowl champ Chris Long gives insight on Deebo Samuel’s injury, Brock Purdy’s late game heroics, and the Lions SB chances on the “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast.

Today, we share highlights from the recent episode of “Green Light with Chris Long”–a production of Yote House Media–in which retired NFL’ers Chris Long, Kyle Long, and Nate Collins react to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

The hosts revisit the Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen classic in Buffalo and why the Bills’ loss shouldn’t discount Allen’s fierce QB performance.

They also discuss the physicality of the Baltimore Ravens and how it will carry them as they face KC next, in the AFC Championship Game.

Breaking down the Packers and 49ers matchup, the hosts admit that Brock Purdy outplayed Jordan Love (Chris says he would still draft Love over Purdy) and share concerns over whether Deebo Samuel’s reckless play style may lead to an injury and risk the 49ers the Super Bowl.

With Sam LaPorta returning from an injury for the Lions’ win against the Buccaneers, the hosts call the 23-year-old rookie the best Tight End in the league.

Finally, they discuss whether NFL coaching staff should be allowed to interview for positions with other organizations while their teams participate in playoffs and if interview prep may be a distraction for names like Texans’ OC Bobby Slowik.

LIVE SHOW HIGHLIGHT

  • [52:00] CHRIS ON WHETHER NFL COACHING STAFF SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON INTERVIEWING WHILE THEIR TEAMS ARE IN PLAYOFFS

We talk about some Coordinators who are interviewing and we look at them kind of sideways…Yeah, the interviews start after this weekend, but you don’t think they are preparing for this stuff?…I am not saying that is why Slowik and C.J. weren’t at their best, certainly not. What I am saying is – in general, on a macro level – I don’t know what the fix is, but can you imagine if a player was like, I am a free agent next year, I can talk to whoever I want after the divisional round? Fans would not go for it… Maybe there is a better way to do it, but the problem is teams get jumps on them, so if you have to wait a while to hire your coach, the teams that are not in the playoffs can hire their coach, and start to build their team and that sort of thing.”

  • [1:17:25] CHRIS ADMITS THAT BROCK PURDY OUTPLAYED JORDAN LOVE THIS WEEKEND

If we were drafting quarterbacks on a randomized team that doesn’t have Deebo Samuel or Trent Williams or [Brandon] Aiyuk, I might draft Jordan Love before Brock Purdy, but it ain’t by much because Jordan’s got more to prove. I know to some people this is inflammatory and a hot take, but I think Brock is a good quarterback and he outplayed Jordan Love. Coming into the game, I would have said the better quarterback in this situation would be Jordan Love –– Brock was better. Brock wasn’t perfect and it is going to take better than that to beat the Lions, in my opinion.”

  • [1:21:15] CHRIS SAYS DEEBO’S RECKLESS PLAY STYLE COULD RESULT IN HIM MISSING BIG GAMES

This guy plays the game with reckless abandon, and I love it, but there is wear and tear. In five years, I think he has played in 16 games of the full season one time. He might miss another big one this week, he missed a big part of this game. He could have been the reason they lost – he is that good. I just remember when he was talking about how he wanted to get paid as a wide receiver and a running back, well he is getting some running back attrition now, if you look at Deebo’s body… I am just saying, from a team-building standpoint, that is a lot of eggs in a basket of a guy who might not be healthy in the biggest situation, because he plays his way. They have to have other answers.”

  • [1:39:30] CHRIS CALLS SAM LAPORTA THE BEST TIGHT END IN THE LEAGUE

Is LaPorta the best Tight End in the NFL? Yeah, I think he might be…He is so solidly built, he is also obviously a good route runner, he’s smart…Here is what makes him good. [He is] great at the catch point, so if you get man, this guy has got a big body. He really does catch the ball away from his body. He is a trustworthy catcher of the football. He understands zone. I think he is good in [a] scramble drill…He is actually interested in blocking – there are very few guys you can even say that about… LaPorta is fucking awesome and I think we should start talking about him like that – like he is maybe the best tight end in the league right now.”
