Sh8kes taps West Coast Rap legend The Grouch for his new single, “Move On”

The song arrives ahead of his upcoming performance at this weekend’s M.A.P. Fest alongside Dizzy Wright, AJ McQueen, and others

Today (2.20.2025), published author, motivational speaker, business owner, spoken word poet, and native North Carolinian Robin “Sh8kes” Williamson shares his poignant new single “Move On”.

Produced by Skii, and featuring a guest verse from the Bay Area’s own The Grouch of Living Legends.

The song serves as Sh8kes’ first new release since his 2024 EP, ‘Necessary Pain’.

This track is about the value and power in letting go and moving on. Sometimes that’s hard to do because of the love you might have for someone, but there comes a time when we start to become harmful to ourselves with resentment. I had to learn this the hard way. It’s usually best to just let go and move on before you start to become a burden to yourself. By letting go, you make room for relationships that inspire growth, opportunities that align with your purpose, and love that nurtures your soul. It’s a bold leap into a life where you no longer settle for less but strive for the best version of yourself… I wrote and recorded this poem almost three years ago. Around this time, DJ Fresh introduced me to The Grouch. I had been a fan of his and Murs for as long as I could remember, so I asked him if he could add a verse to the record and he was more than happy to. Originally, the record had a different instrumental produced by my little brother. When I ran into an issue with getting the record cleared, I went into the lab with Skii, we came up with something different and sent it back over to The Grouch, who then put me in touch with audio engineer extraordinaire Starski, who mixed and mastered the record, and now we’re here.

Sh8kes’ “Move On” is also available now to stream and cop on all major digital streaming platforms!!!

More About Sh8kes:
Author, poet, motivational speaker, and business owner Robin “Sh8kes” Williamson was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina.

As a reformed gang member, Sh8kes seeks to inspire younger generations, and create positive change in his community through his work.

Sh8kes writes from a place of transparency and personal experience in his poetry.

Through blunt lyricism, pain and a captivating voice, his work is, at once, immersive and emotionally stirring.

Sh8kes’ poetry is the bass from a car speaker…the laughter from the barbershop…a piece of corner folklore,” says award-winning artist, educator, and published poet Dasan Ahanu. “His poetry is full of honesty, emotion, and will. It reflects our lives… the struggle, the joys, and the resilience it takes to make it. It’s blue-collar brilliance. It’s words for and from the people.

Sh8kes’ mother wrote poetry, but his true love for spoken word was born from his discovery of one of Southern rap’s most coveted voices, Big Rube (of the Dungeon Family).

As a fan of OutKast and Southern rap music, Rube inspired Sh8kes to write poetry himself at the age of seven and led him to study the greats such as Langston Hughes, and the like.

Sh8kes’ full circle moment arrived in 2021 with the release of ‘Chance 2 Change‘, his debut music project narrated entirely by Rube.

The seven-track project served as a personal testimony of healing and growth through love, life lessons, connection with family, and much more.

Outside of his art, Sh8kes is also the Founder and head chef of Durham, North Carolina’s popular Bull City Dawgs.
