Rick Ross talks Wingstop franchises, adversaries, and dreams of buying part of the Miami Dolphins on SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation

Rick Ross recently sat down for a SiriusXM Front Row Series hosted by Gray Rizzy on SiriusXM Hip-Hop Nation.

During the interview, Rick Ross opened up about navigating adversaries in the rap industry, his “Wingstop” franchises and dream of buying a part of the Miami Dolphins.

Rick Ross Wants a Piece of the Miami Dolphins

Gray Rizzy: What’s exciting you about the next chapter? I don’t even know what the next chapter is. You might be going to the moon or some crazy shit, I have no idea.

Rick Ross: You know, the Rozay, we’re thinking one of the next moves should be me buying a piece of the Miami Dolphins. Let’s go Phins.

Gray Rizzy: I like that idea.

Rick Ross: But you know, am I in the position to do that yet? I’m not sure. You know, I just left the team. We’re doing a merch launch with the Miami Dolphins, so you got to start small. You got to plant those seeds and just water them. You know what I mean? And you could be surprised. A lot of times we don’t even understand our value. It was a long time before I understood what my full potential was and once again, until you start challenging yourself, you can’t stay in your comfort zone. You know what you’re good at. You know what you got to be great at and you got to just push yourself. You know, and I enjoy doing it.

Rick Ross Speaks About Adversaries

Gray Rizzy: In the book, we talk about adversaries. We talk about pain points in the sense of sometimes there’s a slow news day and sometimes strategically and on social media you’ll go ahead and bring up, you know, you’ll engage with the adversary big time here and there. One that you kind of touched on and I know he has a drop that’s coming up is Drake and I want to just touch on what you had mentioned about how suckers don’t want to see people lose. You want to see people win. How do you feel about that just overall? Because I’ll tell you right now, I’m competitive in a lot of ways. There’s some people I just don’t want to see win and hearing you say that, that kind of changed my mindset in a way.

Rick Ross: Well, for Rozay, if there’s—I don’t have a list of people that I necessarily want to see lose. I really don’t have no energy for that. You know what I’m saying? We focused on winning, so that’s the game. Now, if you make yourself an opposition, we gon spank you and keep moving. You know what I’m saying? I’ve been doing this a long time. You know what I mean? Ain’t nobody ever stepped on them ugly Nikes right there. You feel me? You know what I’m saying? So, as a boss and as a hustler, you got to realize life is competitive. Life itself. You could be in competition with your neighbor and you ain’t even know it. The person across the street could be opposition and you don’t even know it, so you just got to move in a way where you prepared for whatever it is and me being a boss, that’s what I am. You know what I’m saying? And you know, I’ve been a shot caller a long time, so is there a conspiracy that Rozay is playing a part of with anybody in the culture? Nah, we ain’t even got time for that. That’s some weak shit. You know what I’m saying? But if anybody step out of line, you know what I mean? I could get—you know, just to remind you what the play is and you know how I’m still here 20 summers later and having fun, winning in a major way, so when you see the boss on stage at Verzuz, you really watching 30 different businesses that I’m representing at the same time, so it ain’t just Rozay in a pinky ring. Now we making this shit into something that’s extremely profitable and that’s all the moves we make because that’s what you doing it for. It’s going to come a time in your life where you going to thank yourself when you need that best health care insurance. When your family need it, your kids need it, your mama need it. You’ll thank yourself later for the hard work you put in.

Why Rick Ross Became a Wingstop Franchisee

Rick Ross: I bought my first Wingstop just because I love lemon pepper wings. You know what I’m saying? I just really wanted to just have my own spot. I could pull up in a Ferrari, got my date with me. Yeah. Walk in. Yeah. You know what I need, baby. You know what I’m saying? And it went from one franchise because I, you know, you spent 300, I made a mil the first year. Okay, I want another. I want another. I want another, and you could do that, but you also got to have amazing managers, amazing, you know, hustlers that’s on the fryers, the ones who gon keep the restrooms clean. All of that plays a role in making sure that franchise is maximizing its output every year.

Gray Rizzy: How many franchises do you have now?

Rick Ross: I don’t know.

Gray Rizzy: That many? That many right there.

Rick Ross: Yeah, Rozay stopped counting.
