Haitian director/actor Jean-Claude LaMarre announced over an Instagram Live session that he’s planning to create a biopic about legendary hip-hop/soul trio The Fugees.
According to Singersroom, LaMarre revealed he’s in the beginning stages of the project, but will first continue on the projects he already has in the works: “Chocolate City 2” and “Kinky” which stars Vivica Fox, Dawn Richard, & Robert Ri’Chard.
The Fugees were comprised of members Lauryn Hill, Pras, & Wyclef Jean, and the trio ruled the mid-90s with their album The Score, which earned the two Grammy awards. Their hits include “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready Or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La.” The Score ranked No. 18 on About.com’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums list, and went 6x platinum in the U.S, peaking at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The group eventually disbanded, as relationships between band members deteriorated. However, each member went on to have individual commercial success.
If this actually goes down, I’d watch it!!! Will you be checkin’ for a Fugees biopic???
