Racist Note Left For African-American Family At Florida Hotel

An African-American father and son say a racist note was left in their upscale hotel room while they vacationed in Sarasota, Fla., over the Fourth of July holiday.

Frank Davis, the president and CEO of the Horizon Group, was staying at the Art Ovation Hotel with his son Michael when they left to have breakfast and go shopping.

They came back to find the hateful note left inside a lamp next to the bed, ABC News affiliate WWSB reported.

“You’re a n—-r,” the note read, according to the report.

Davis said it’s been decades since he’s been on the receiving end of similar, derogatory comments.

“This is something in 2018 you don’t expect this kind of thing to happen,” he told WWSB.

He reported the incident to the hotel’s general manager and filed a report with local police, but no suspects have been named.

The Davises rejected the hotel’s offer for a free night’s stay because they feared for their lives.

“Who knows what other kind of actions that individual who clearly knew we were there was capable of,” Davis said. “Which is why we decided to relocate and find additional lodging for the remainder of our stay.”

Davis believes the note was left by someone with access to his room, possibly a hotel employee.

Art Ovation general manager Matthew Simone issued an apology to the Davis family and added that “allegations such as this are very concerning to us.”

The hotel is investigating the incident, according to the report.
