Oklahoma District Judge Traci Soderstrom Awarded Donkey Of The Day

Oklahoma District Judge Traci Soderstrom has been awarded Donkey Of The Day.

As we speak, an Oklahoma District Judge by the name of Traci Soderstrom is under investigation.

Now, why in the hell is she under investigation, you ask???

Back in June, Soderstrom was the presiding judge of a trial that involved a man named Khristian Tyler Martzall who beat his now ex-girlfriend’s (Judith Danker) 2-year-old son, Braxton Danker, to death.

Along the way, Soderstrom was caught on camera spending more time on her smartphone than she was on the case itself.

While the trial ended with Martzall being convicted of second-degree manslaughter, it didn’t stop those involved from speaking on the matter keeping in mind prosecutors were looking to convict Martzall on first-degree murder charges.

After going over the footage, District Attorney Adam Panter had this to say in a statement, “After receiving a tip from courthouse personnel, I reviewed surveillance video from above the Judge’s bench and can confirm that the Judge spent hours of the trial on her cell phone both texting and scrolling through social media. It is both shocking and disappointing to learn. Jurors are banned from using cell phones in the courtroom during trials because we expect them to give their full time and attention to the evidence being presented. I would expect and hope the Court would hold itself to the same standard required of the jurors, regardless of the type of case. It is especially concerning in the present case, as it dealt with the death of a 2-year-old child and a Defendant facing a possibility of up to life in prison. … I am obviously concerned that the Judge’s response is not to address the issue of her behavior, but rather to move the camera that captured said behavior.”

Former judge and current attorney Tracy Schumacher had this to add, “As a former judge, use of phones and email during a trial is not uncommon. They are utilized not only by judges but the lawyers in coordinating witnesses, facilitating the movement of other cases and checking with staff. Unfortunately, the footage shows the judge using the cellphone for a different purpose.”
