Following the release of her debut 13-track LP ‘DEFY‘, New York-hailing R&B songstress Niqa Mor shares the sultry official video for “DYL“, a stand-out track from the project. The track is produced by Fewtcha & directed by Los Angeles-based Damien Sandoval (Bobby Brackins “My Jam”, The-Dream “Too Early”).
The past year has seen the songstress take the time to fully discover her identity as an artist, develop her own unique style, and carefully craft a truly unique sound which sets her apart from the rest. More recently, Ms. Mor collaborated with director Damien Sandoval to create the visuals for a non-album single “Conquer” as well as the superb ‘DEFY‘ trailer, whilst also performing as an opening act for Maybach Music superstar Omarion in April of this year.
As an artist, Niqa admits she is very hands on when it comes to her art form, as she writes all her own material, and is heavily involved in all music production & visual concepts. She describes her sound as “organic whilst also quite experimental”, and like “Hip-Hop & Pop-infused R&B with a confident grown, and sexy edge to it”.
Speaking further on the project, the singer says:
“I would say DEFY is a true introduction to Niqa Mor, and me really coming into my own. My main influence is 90’s R&B, as it’s what I grew up on and what runs through me. I was very open and honest during the creative process, and I want people who listen to this project to get a real feel of that. I want to welcome listeners into my thoughts, my feelings and my world.”
Running with the definition of the title ‘DEFY‘, Niqa Mor aims to take her counter-conventional musical approach to new heights, going very much against the grain. Although still in the relatively early stages of her career, all inspirations, aspirations, experiences, and previous work up until this point will be used as a springboard as she now set her sights on making her mark, and finding a niche to fully call her own.
