Natalie Cole’s family revealed her cause of death in a statement on Thursday.
The family told the Associated Press that the legendary singer died from idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension which led to heart failure.
The statement read:
“(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder.”
The singer also struggled with drug problems and hepatitis that led to a kidney transplant, according to HelloBeautiful.
Cole died last week at the age of 65.
