MP3: Tribeca-Grand (@SportOfTheGods) – NY-PHI

Following the success of their song “Take A Knee” that is Number 5 on Nasty Nes’ RapAttackLive.com college radio chart, Tribeca-Grand releases another hot track, “NY-PHI,” now available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal and other digital service providers. The duo turns a Grammy-winning Hip-Hop classic on its head. Digable Planets’ “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like That)” makes a chopped-up cameo while Tribeca (BX) and Grand Agent (North Philly) send up an ode to their respective hometowns. The song also includes an interpolation of Boyz II Men’s Grammy Award-winner “Motownphilly.” The artwork, created by renowned Australian artist Cint Clare, is equally adventurous, turning the Statue of Liberty into a medallion-rockin’ femcee.

The group explains the motivation for the song. “We wanted to follow up with something that spoke to who we are aside from ‘Take A Knee,’” Tribeca-Grand says about “NY-PHI.” “The obvious part is where we’re from. But to mash up Digable Planets and Boyz II Men, that speaks more to the flavor of the forthcoming album Sport Of The Gods. It’s adventurous and artful, but commercially solid.”
