Adrian Elias, who goes by his rapper alias, A-d, is a US Navy veteran who served six years, recently released a new mixtape this past Sunday – for Veterans Day. The 7-track project finds A-d rapping about a variety of topics ranging from his home borough of the Bronx, social issues, mental health and his personal redemption from depression. In a world that likes to candy coat everything, A-d’s “Websters Definition Volume 1” is a dosage of REAL.
The opening track, “Websters Definition” comes at you fast as a mixture of percussion and vinyl scratches set the tone. At the halfway point of the project, “Change” diverts from the energetic soundscapes of the previous tracks – full Boom Bap mode in effect. Closing out the project, “Good Feeling” is exactly what the title entails. The feel good records opens with A-D sending out his “thank you’s” before unleashing a series of genuine bars.
