L.A.-based elementary school, Laurel Cinematic Arts Creative Tech Magnet, has been awarded Donkey Of The Day for assigning cotton picking project.
Back in 2017, a Los Angeles-based elementary school–then called Laurel Span School and now known as Laurel Cinematic Arts Creative Tech Magnet–thought it was a good idea to assign a cotton picking project to its students.
Since then, Black parent Rashunda Pitts has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District as well as the Board of Education because of said project that consisted of a cotton field being set up at said elementary school.
Pitts filed the lawsuit on behalf of her now 14-year-old daughter who had experienced emotional distress to the point of becoming “very quiet and reserved” as a result of said project.
