Former L.A. council member Nury Martinez and Alabama senator Tommy Tuberville have been awarded Donkey Of The Day for their unapologetic racist remarks about Black people.
One of our favorite Donkey Of The Days are the ones that go to more than one person in one sweep.
The first Donkey Of The Day is former L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez.
Martinez, who is Latina, had a racist meltdown amongst her fellow councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León as well as Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera when it comes to gerrymandering and redistricting.
The meltdown, which supposedly went down back in October 2021, started with “Fuck that guy … He’s with the Blacks“, with “that guy” being District Attorney George Gascón.
But nope, it didn’t end there.
Martinez also took shots at fellow councilmember Mike Bonin’s adopted Black child, by saying “This kid needs a beatdown. Let me take him around the corner, I’ll bring him right back.”
It also didn’t help that she referred to said Black child as a “changuito” (“monkey” in Spanish).
Unfortunately for Martinez, her racism with a capital R was caught on audio that eventually made it to Reddit then on to the Los Angeles Times.
Martinez has since resigned following the recorded audio leak.
The second Donkey Of The Day is current Alabama GOP senator Tommy Tuberville.
Tuberville showed his ass at a recent Trump rally by going into a racist tirade about African-Americans.
His tirade went a little something like this: “They want crime. They want crime, because they want to take over what you got. They want to control what you have. They want reparation because they think the people that do the crime are owed that. Bullshit. They are not owed that.”
There were plenty of responses to Tuberville’s racist comments but this particular statement from National Urban League President Marc H. Morial was the most telling mentioning that his (Tuberville’s) comments are even more “heartbreaking” given his “decades of coaching Black athletes who entrusted their health, safety, and futures to a man who clearly holds them in the lowest contempt.”
It’s a lot to think about… 🤔
