For every popular bandwagon opinion, there will always be an unpopular “lame/square” opinion. While this cuts across the board in all areas, I will keep it to Hip-Hop & Eminem for the sake of this editorial piece. A popular opinion when it comes to Eminem is “Eminem is the greatest rapper alive”. Another popular opinion is “Eminem is the G.O.A.T. and ain’t nobody fucking with him”. Now while those popular opinions are good & logical, I’m one of those people that feel that he is overrated and is not a good rapper at all. Thus, what we have here is an unpopular opinion. Because I have this unpopular opinion about him, his fans & dickriders are always so quick to tar & feather me for doing so. Try as they might but nothing his fans & dickriders say or do will ever make me a fan of his and this is why…
First off, me not liking nor seeing the big deal about Eminem is just my opinion. My opinion is just that. It’s not a fact. Some people, regardless of race, like him simply because he is white (let’s go ahead and get that out of the way). Him being white has no bearing on why I don’t like his music. Some people like him because they feel he is a good rapper. I think he is a horrible rapper. Some people feel that he is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time). I feel that he is the W.O.A.T. (Wackest/Worst Of All Time). Some people believe that he is lyrically untouchable. I believe that he (as well as anybody else, at that matter) can lyrically be touched. The following statements here are what you call *bangs drums*… opinions!!! Again, these are not facts, just opinions.
I think it’s worth mentioning that I had a heated debate with a woman not too long ago that ended with her foaming at the mouth because I said that Eminem is trash. Not long before she calmed down, she made it a point to mention that I lacked “bar comprehension” when it comes to his music. So let’s get to that, shall we??? On “ShadyXV”, he said “Yo, why does it always sound like I’m grabbing my nostrils? / Fuck that, I’ll battle ’em all, I’ll battle a mall / I’ll stand there and yell that at a wall / ‘Til the mannequin dolls scatter and the inanimate objects / That I’m battering all shatter and fall”. Now on “Kings Never Die”, he said “How ’bout that? I’m somehow now back to the underdog / But no matter how loud that I bark / This sport is somethin’ I never bow-out at”. And on “’Til Hell Freezes Over”, he said “Like this weed is laced ain’t it, it tastes tainted / The whole place fainted, I woke up with my face painted / Spaced out like Sci-Fi TV, “Fuck ICP, buy my CD!” / That’s what I’m screaming while I’m handing out promo tapes of my debut”. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see what’s so hard to comprehend in the mentioned lyrics since you know, I lack “bar comprehension” LOL!!! It’s also worth mentioning that when his fans & dickriders say that he is the G.O.A.T. and/or he is the greatest rapper alive, they only mention his record sales and never take their line of reasoning anywhere past that. Shit, Vanilla Ice & MC Hammer are the G.O.A.T.s if you want to apply that logic.
I can go on & on about why I’m not an Eminem fan until the casket drops but I won’t LOL!!! I believe that it’s worth mentioning that while some rap music listeners will list Eminem somewhere in their Top 5 (hell, even Top 10) dead or alive lists, he is not even in my Top 500 (or even my Top 1,000, at that matter) dead or alive list. Sure, some people will still give Eminem’s music a listen after they read this editorial piece and that’s their right to do so. But even as of the writing of this article, I am not an Eminem fan nor will I ever be!!!
