When you think of NY Hip Hop, some immediately think of Brooklyn. There is a “forgotten borough” that has been a major hub of the genre’s stars since 1992… Staten Island. This was the birthplace of one of the genres most important groups – the Wu-Tang Clan. A crew that had multiple breakout stars and cultivated talent from within, Wu-Tang affiliated artists always had luminaries like Method Man, RZA, & GZA getting their back. One such homegrown talent is Anthony Messado, better known by his stage name Hanz On or Hannibal The Great.
The former Ice Water Inc. emcee that has worked with hip-hop greats including Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Pimp C, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Method Man, and more is currently hell-bent on further establishing his label, Hanz On Music Entertainment (H.O.M.E.), as a full service entity. The label will be releasing Hanz On’s final solo effort, ‘BARCA’, on March 17, 2017 and shortly after will present the second installment of Method Man’s “Meth Lab” series, ‘Meth Lab 2: The Lithium’. The label has also signed several artist & producers with projects tentatively dropping towards the end of 2017. For more information on H.O.M.E., give Messado’s exclusive interview with The DigiSpot a read HERE.
Today, Hanz On has shared an exclusive first listen of ‘BARCA’ with the help of Mass Appeal. The 14-track project features guest verses from Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, and has been described as taking “listeners of a certain age back to a time when Wu-Tang was at their hungriest”.
