EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • (2:48): GG ON SOUTHERN NBA PLAYERS BEING LOOKED DOWN UPON VERSUS WEST COAST PLAYERS

GG: “I feel like we’re definitely kind of looked down on just because, West Coast has more media and outlets and different things like that, but we might have swaggier hoopers in my opinion. Of course you and [James] Harden and Jrue [Holiday], he kind of stiff a little bit, but we got Ja [Morant] with the double cross, Zion [Williamson]– so yeah, I feel like just media outlet and all that but definitely looked down upon but we still understand that at the end of the day it all matters when you step in between the lines and I feel like us southern guys, we do a good job proving that.”

  • (10:07): GG REFLECTS ON HIS COLLEGE MISTAKES THAT AFFECTED HIS DRAFT PICK

GG: “Figuring out ways to go back in time because I tried to push off the things that I knew were the reasons for it and just tried to go off– Well they think I’m talented so I’ll be straight, but my dad always tells me attitude and manners can take you farther in life. So it was some things I had to clean up on and ultimately reflect on myself and definitely some of my biggest regrets in college were just a couple five minute decisions that cost me 5 million dollars.”

  • (18:22): GG SHARES THE STORY OF BEING UNINVITED FROM STEPH CURRY’S BASKETBALL CAMP AND TAKING THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONFRONT HIM DURING HIS FIRST GAME VS. THE WARRIORS

GG: “The thing with the camp, the only reason I was mad about reclassifying up was because I wasn’t going to be able to play in the McDonald’s All-American game. I wasn’t going to be able to get stamped on ESPN as number one because I was number one on every other list except ESPN and I really wanted ESPN and to play at Stephen Curry’s camp– but I was a lock for all three of them going into my senior year and then when we came out with the news [about reclassifying] –they took those things back so I couldn’t hesitate. I had to let [Steph] Curry know– at halftime I don’t know if I’ll get to talk to him after the game or he might put the towel over his head and walk out straight out– I was like ‘Steph, why’d you have to do me like that.’ He tried to play it like, oh my fault man. You know what I’m saying? I told him it was all love but definitely something that I had in mind even when I got to guard him, same thing he was doing at them in those camps, I’m expecting him to come at me like that so I tried make sure I was remembering them highlights that I watched the middle school and stuff.”

  • (26:26): GG ON HIS THOUGHTS ABOUT COOPER FLAGG CHANGING THE GAME

“My opinion has drastically changed– as a competitor, we always find ways to hate. I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of 18 year olds saying you know, I’m better than Cooper Flagg but he created a new wave and I feel like in probably the next 20 or 30 years we’re going to have a couple 7’5”, 7’3” dudes bringing the ball up to court. I feel like he’s the definition of different and people might say you jacking or bro he’s catching a three point line and just laying the ball.”

  • (32:48): GG’S REACTION TO JA MORANT DUNKING ON VICTOR WEMBANYAMA

GG: “I was down with the hustle– was my first game back, so that first win back, it was like coming back from Thanksgiving–tired. We got our heads down in our legs and everybody’s phone is like–one dude yelled out ‘he dunked on Wemby’, we like who Jaren? Ja. And I instantly got a visualization of what it had looked like and then seeing the video, it exceeded my imagination that– excuse my language, dad and mom– that sh*t was crazy.”

  • (34:10): GG ON WATCHING JA MORANT DUNK IN PRACTICE AND WHETHER HE COULD WIN THE NBA DUNK CONTEST

JACKIE: “Are his hops really that crazy in-person? I know you see it a lot in practice…How sick is this dude’s hops when you’re at practice with him?”

GG: “I’ll compare it to when you see [Super] Mario jump and it’s a little poof of an air cloud under him. Swear to god, sometimes you see a little poof of a cloud under him. Everyday in practice, of the past two training camps I’ve been part of it’s something new every day.

PG: “As a young guy, this would happen very often to me, and I’ve been teammates with guys that were very athletic. Gerald Green for instance. After practice sometimes we would have dunk offs…Gerald used to do some of the craziest shit. I’d witness some of the craziest dunks, just him playing around after practice. Is there some crazy stuff that you think Ja could use to win the Dunk Contest?

GG: “Yea for sure! I feel like he could jump off of two feet from the free throw line.”

  • (38:56): GG ON THE IMPACT OF YUKI KAWAMURA & WHAT HE BRINGS TO THE TEAM

GG: “He’s just always joyful. Yuki brings a lot of media attention and so they really get a deeper dive into who we are– everything is cool with Yuki. He works super, super hard and he understands that he has his country on his back. That means something to him. He has that same mindset of– that we have– you know everybody’s on the same page of what we know we can accomplish as a team. He’s bringing that fire that he had from the Olympics to us and super fun to be around. Maybe you know when guys have their head down Yuki will be like let’s fucking go.”
