The white former Fort Worth, Texas, cop charged with murder for allegedly shooting a black woman dead in her own home was released on bail, according to news reports.
Aaron Dean, 34, who was charged Monday in the death of Atatiana Jefferson, was released from the Tarrant County Jail after posting a bond for his $200,000 bail, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Dean is accused of shooting Jefferson through a window of her home while responding to a report of an open door, authorities said.
The shooting was captured on Dean’s body camera, which shows him approaching the window of Jefferson’s home with his gun drawn. He shouts “Put your hands up” before firing a single shot that struck and killed the 28-year-old victim.
Dean, who had been on the force since April 2018, resigned from the department Monday before being taken into custody at 6 p.m. He was charged with murder and released on bond around 9:15 p.m.
“He resigned before his opportunity to be cooperative,” Interim Dallas Police Chief Ed Kraus said.
