Toronto artist Ekelle drops her debut album ‘Let’s Get It’ plus her “Be Free” video featuring Maïa Davies of Montreal band Ladies Of The Canyon.
Toronto “Hood-Pop” artist Ekelle shares her debut album ‘Let’s Get It’.
The nine-track offering includes featured vocals from Gee Wunder, MaizyF, and others.
Along with the album, Ekelle also shares the visual for her “Be Free” single, featuring Maïa Davies of Montreal band Ladies Of The Canyon, which is taken from said album.
Ekelle had this to say about the album and track:
“This song is about radical self-acceptance.
‘Be Free’ featuring Maia Davies of Ladies of the Canyon is for anyone who has gone on the quest to find themselves. Taken from my debut LP, ‘Let’s Get It’, which in summary is about owning who you are—embrace that bad bitch!
You will relate to ‘Be Free’ if you march to the beat of your own drum. You may have found happiness, but the new haters and the naysayers of your past just can’t seem to accept that.
Co-writer Maïa and I were talking about the kinds of music we like as B. Morales, who produced most of the album, along with Gee Wunder and MaizyF, was making a beat in the background. Before we knew it we had something with a Disco vibe on our hands to complement my self-created genre of Hood Pop. BrownGuyMadeIt shot the video with a 70’s aesthetic and really matched the vibe!
The songs on ‘Let’s Get It’ are flirtatious, or provide social commentary, and some are just about bigging yourself up and having a good time. I hope listeners feel like they can conquer anything after hearing this project.”
