Editorial: Possible Def Jam Records Biopic In The Works

“Krush Groove” fans rejoice!!! A Def Jam biopic could be in the works.

According to Essence Magazine, Universal is considering an in-depth look at Def Jam Records & co-founder Russell Simmons following the success of “Straight Outta Compton”.

Michael B. Jordan & Jonah Hill have been mentioned as possible leads for the roles of Simmons & Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin respectively, although there are no deals currently in place.

The film would be based on “Life & Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God”, a 2002 film co-written by Simmons & Nelson George that chronicles Simmons’ career, the creation of Def Jam & how hip-hop grew from an underground movement to a prominent voice in culture.

The project is still in the preliminary stages. There is no word yet on when production will begin.
