Since releasing the lyric video for her new single “Only” on Saturday, Nicki Minaj has been bashed because people believe the video has Nazi-like imagery. In the video, the Young Money logo resembles a swastika while the rest of the five-minute clip looks similar to the Third Reich.
The Head Barb took to her Twitter to apologize for the offensiveness of the video.
The artist who made the lyric video for “Only” was influenced by a cartoon on Cartoon Network called "Metalocalypse" & Sin City.— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) November 11, 2014
Both the producer, & person in charge of over seeing the lyric video (one of my best friends & videographer: A. Loucas), happen to be Jewish— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) November 11, 2014
I didn't come up w/the concept, but I'm very sorry & take full responsibility if it has offended anyone. I'd never condone Nazism in my art.— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) November 11, 2014
This isn’t the first time Nicki has received backlash over visuals associated with her music. Back in February, she was slammed for using a famous photo of Malcolm X holding a rifle as the cover art for the song “Lookin Ass N***a”.
“Only” serves as the first single from Nicki’s long awaited third album, ‘The Pinkprint’, which drops 12.15.2014!!!
