The annual Television Critics Association (TCA) summer event is now taking place in Los Angeles, as every network presents their upcoming projects, making announcements on future shows. And the above announcement was made during Showtime’s presentation.
These announcements are usually followed up by official press releases with full details on every project, so I’m sure VannDigital.com will be getting one in a minute, and when we do, we’ll update you with the specifics.
As of press time, this is what we’re getting from various sources:
The currently-untitled project is a coming-of-age drama which revolves around a young African-American man who lives on Chicago’s South Side.
Lena Waithe created & wrote the pilot, which will be an hour long, and she will also serve as executive producer alongside rapper Common.
Also, Showtime has “high hopes” for the project, adding that they were “blown away” by Waithe’s script, calling it “emotional, funny, tragic, & relevant, all at once“.
