Brooklyn emcee Joey Bada$$ is facing assault charges in Byron Bay, Australia. The 19-year-old performer allegedly punched a security guard before his set at the Falls Music Festival on Friday night.
“A 20-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face by a man while working as a security guard at the festival,” stated a police spokeswoman. “The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries.”
The guard apparently told police he thought Joey was an unauthorized individual. When he approached Bada$$, the guard claims the rapper attacked him. The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries at the venue, and he was later taken to a hospital.
Byron Bay police arrested Bada$$ after his show and formally charged the Pro Era crew frontman with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He appeared in court on Saturday and granted bail.
Bada$$ must return to Byron Bay Local Court on March 19. His debut studio album 'B4.DA.$$' is scheduled for release on January 20.
