Courtney Gordon, an African-American homeowner in Palm Bay, Florida, feels he and his family are being threatened after vandals used chemicals to spell out the n-word on his front lawn. Police are investigating the damage done to his property.

“I have a feeling of who done it. It’s like a group of men, and I leave them to God,” said Gordon.

Gordon doesn’t believe that the individuals responsible were brave enough to say the disrespectful slur to his face. “I’m a big guy, so they’re not gonna come to me & say that. They did it like the way they did it, behind my back & at night.”

Police say if they determine the incident to be a hate crime, the individuals may “face a higher degree of misdemeanor,” BET News reports.

In the meantime, Gordon must foot the bill to fix his lawn.
