A manhunt was underway Monday for two suspects after two police officers were shot and wounded in Los Angeles.
Police detective Meghan Aguilar said the officers were driving on Broadway around 5:45 p.m. Sunday when they were shot at, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Aguilar said the officers, who were wearing plainclothes, returned fire and several suspects scattered, according to the paper.
A number of people were detained in connection with the shooting and officers are searching for two suspects, she said.
The Times reported that the officers suffered minor wounds and were treated at the scene. It is unclear whether they were in a marked police vehicle.
“At this time, the officers believe they were the target of the gunfire,” Aguilar told the paper.
“We have active search teams going through the neighborhood,” she added. “We’re asking the public to shelter in place and notify police if they see any unusual activity in their houses or yards.”
