Colorado State University students have been awarded Donkey Of The Day for yelling out pro-Russia chants at Ukrainian basketball player during a game.
This past Saturday (2.4.2023), Colorado State University went up against Utah State University in a men’s basketball game.
When Utah State University player Max Shulga came up to shoot free throws, shit didn’t go over too good for him in two ways.
One, Colorado State University students went out of their way to yell out pro-Russia chants at Shulga who is a native Ukrainian.
With the Russo-Ukrainian War going on at the moment, that wasn’t a good idea on the Colorado State University students’ part.
The second way shit didn’t go over so well for Shulga was that he eventually missed all of his free throws.
So apparently, the pro-Russia chants from Colorado State University students did serve a purpose.
But at any rate, Colorado State University’s athletics department took to Twitter to make an apology stating “Every participant, student, and fan should feel welcomed in our venues. For something like this to have occurred is unacceptable at Colorado State.”
Following tonight’s basketball game, we became aware that a small group of individuals in our student section chanted "Russia" at a student-athlete from Utah State, who is from the Ukraine.

Utah State Athletics replied with “Utah State University and it’s Athletics Department fully supports Max Shulga, and his family, who reside in Ukraine. The incident that occurred during our men’s basketball game at Colorado State last night was inappropriate and unacceptable. We appreciate the Colorado State Administration and basketball staff for not condoning such behavior.”
Shulga himself had this to say…
“First, I would like to thank the Colorado State administration and Coach Medved for their immediate support and understanding following the disappointing events during last night’s game.
This has been an extremely difficult and challenging year with my family and loved ones so far away and living in constant danger. I pray daily for the conflict to come to a close and for peace to be restored for my people in Ukraine.
As for the chants last night, while extremely upsetting in the moment, I also know how emotions can run high during competition and people can do and say things they do not really mean. Colorado State and its fans have apologized and I accept and appreciate the apology.
I hope you will all join me in praying for peace in Ukraine.
Go Aggies!”
In the end, this worked against Colorado State University as they lost to Utah State University, 88-79, with Shulga having nine points, three rebounds, and six assists.
Not only did Colorado State University take the L in said game, they have also been awarded a well-deserved Donkey Of The Day by Charlamagne Tha God.
