Carmelo Anthony speaks on Luka Doncic trade, Zion Williamson, and more on “7PM in Brooklyn”.

We share this week’s episode of “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony”, a Wave Original hosted by NBA legend, Carmelo Anthony.

As part of the new season, the newest team members of the 7PM in Brooklyn family join the show, as Rudy Gay, Monica McNutt, The Kid Mero, and Kazeem Famuyide chop it up with Carmelo Anthony on a variety of topics.

This week, NFL star and comedian Lou Young joins the crew to talk about how the Luka Doncic/Anthony Davis trade could have happened without LeBron James knowing, thoughts on Zion Williamson’s inconsistent playing time, and Young’s experience playing alongside Peyton Manning versus Cam Newton.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • (08:48): MELO AGREES THAT LEBRON COULDN’T HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE LUKA TRADE

MELO: “Now you in LA and you at a point in a time where in order to make certain shit happen, I can’t put certain people in these situations to actually have influence to f*ck this up. LeBron couldn’t have, he couldn’t know. Rich Paul couldn’t know. Nobody else could know. Nobody knew before. He knew AD was unhappy. That’s what he knew… I don’t know this as a guarantee, just assuming.”

  • (18:46): MELO ON ZION WILLIAMSON’S FUTURE WITH THE PELICANS AND HIS INCONSISTENT PLAYING TIME

MELO: “Sometimes I do understand their side though because look, we have the history of you having these injuries and this is what’s happening and you playing back to back. So we have the stats and the analytics to share that and to prove that. So yeah, we going to stand firm in the analytics. You playing, well you want to play, you feel good, but the science is saying that if you do X, Y, Z, you’re going to have another injury. So it is a f*cked up situation to be in as a player though somebody like him who’s what? Zion is what 22, 23. You can’t play back to backs. I want to play. Especially if you feel like you healthy, but it’s also got to be a healthy conversation, a real conversation between Zion and the staff. It’s like, yo, look, if I can play, let me play. If I tell you my sh*t aching, then that man, it’s really aching. You know what I’m saying?”

  • (34:49): LOU ON PLAYING WITH CAM NEWTON VS PEYTON MANNING

LOU: “You really can’t touch Peyton Manning. Even if you break up a play and practice on Peyton, you might get cut– real sh*t. He got pissed off at me. I broke up a play…But to your point, I’ll tell you the difference right? He said fuck’s wrong with this guy. So then fast, fast forward, I get to Carolina, you make a play on Cam [Newton] in practice. What’d he do? He could pay me a thousand dollars every time I picked it off because he wanted to gain reps. So he is like, Hey Lou, I need that work. Sh*t, I need rent. Let’s do it and then I make a play. You got to pick it off– something in the envelope in my locker… he’s like the LeBron James build of the NFL. Can’t miss him. That’s what I’m saying, it’s not your average football player. So he attracts a certain amount of attention but I would say even as a rookie from my first day on, he just was like, Hey bro, you need anything–so just solid. You don’t get that from a franchise QB.”
