EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • 07:31 – MELO REACTS TO LEBRON REACHING 40,000 CAREER POINTS

Melo:First of all 40K is crazy. That is crazy. We will never see that. No one is touching that 40K. [Passing] Kareem was crazy, but 40,000 is different. So I hope people are not overlooking it…I think we should really cherish these moments. We are so quick to move on to the next topic and the next headline. But. we gotta cherish these moments.

  • 29:58 – MELO AND MERO ON WEMBY’S DEVELOPMENT IN SAN ANTONIO AND WHETHER THE SPURS NEED TO MAKE A MOVE FOR TRAE YOUNG

Mero:He’s killing, bro but the Spurs have won 13 games and are dead last in the Western Conference. How the f**k do you have the Monstar and you’re taking these Ls?

Carmelo:They got a plan for the kid. Let it play out. Pop [Gregg Popovich] knew they was gonna be trash…So San Antonio is not in no rush. They are one of those organizations that build and develop. They got a plan for him, let it play out. Be patient.

Mero:Who’s the perfect player to put next to Wemby to have success?

Carmelo:It’s hard to say. It’s just the very beginning of it so you don’t know how he might [develop]. You have an idea of the type of pieces you’d want around him. Shooters, you gotta have an explosive point guard, a playmaker but not someone that’s shoot first, score first. Again, this is like a trial run for San Antonio. Let’s see physically can he last throughout the season, how does he respond to the bumps and bruises and rookie wall? They just checking the list as it’s a full-year plan.

Mero:They already talking about getting Trae Young over there….Is he a good fit over there?

Carmelo:Trae? Yea! Hell yea. I think you need another alpha. Trae Young brings a certain type of energy. So I think that’s something San Antonio should look at.

  • 59:15 – MELO ON RECEIVING 1:1 MENTORSHIP AND INSTRUCTION FROM MICHAEL JORDAN EARLY IN HIS CAREER

Mero:Last week you said you never lost NBA 1s. Have you ever had 1s with Mike [Michael Jordan] and beat Mike?

Carmelo:I don’t want to talk bout that. I prefer not to talk about it because that was a real moment. I was in the sanctuary. I was in the temple…So yeah, we played but it wasn’t ‘Yo let’s play to seven or 11.’ It’s like we got two dribbles. We gotta score….He taught me the psychological aspect of how to break down scoring…When I got with him, it was more individualized and catered to my game like OK, ‘Here’s how I see your game, I wanna give you the add to that. Here’s the tricks of the trade.’ It’s those types of moments but you dealing with it in quick time like this is how you do it now check up…So It wasn’t like 1:1 games, it was like teaching in real-time and action though. Game speed, but this is what we’re trying to get out of this.
