'Bringing Up Bates' Off The Air After Racist Video Mocking George Floyd's Death Goes Public

The Bates family will have some time to reflect on decisions new and old thanks to the canceling of their show Bringing Up Bates. UPtv made the executive decision to cancel the airing of the 11th season of the Duggar-esque family of 19 children and 18 grandchildren’s show next month. Though the network has not given a reason as to why the show isn’t coming back, many believe that this decision is connected to the racially insensitive video that was posted a few months back.

In a post on the Instagram account of the show, UPtv released a statement notifying viewers of the show’s cancellation. “We will not be premiering Bringing Up Bates season 11 on UPtv as planned as we will be focusing our programming in 2022 on movies and a new scripted series to be announced soon,” they wrote in part.

UPtv thanked the family for their transparency and promised to bring more uplifting content.

However, the network didn’t offer an explanation for canceling the show.

The Bates family responded to the news in a statement, thanking the network for the opportunity. “We realize God’s timing is always perfect, and we are looking forward to what the future holds for our own family, as well as the network,” the statement read.

In November 2021, a video was posted by Carlin Bates that demonstrated the family mocking George Floyd’s Death in a game of charades.

One family member pretended to be someone with a gun while another family member yelled out Floyd’s name which cause the family to erupt in laughter. Although the video was quickly taken down, it was not taken down fast enough to stop others from saving the video.
