Beyonce Concerts Ain't Got Nothin' On The Ticket Prices For Front Row Seats At Michelle Obama's Book Tour
Michelle Obama's fans were very excited about the announcement of her 12-city tour across the US to promote her newest book release, Becoming. Although some have been raising their eyebrows for her Beyonce-level ticket prices, the tickets are still selling like hotcakes.
According to BlackBusiness.org, tickets to the former first lady's book tour ranged from $29.50 for nosebleed seats up to $3,000 for front-row seats and a package which reportedly includes a "pre-show photo opportunity," meet-and-greet reception with Obama, a signed book and other perks, including an "exclusive VIP gift item."
Since the ticket presale started, the cheaper tickets have quickly been sold out. Now, fans who haven't scored a ticket yet are left deciding if they should shell out $3,000 to meet Obama and hear her talk about her book in person.
Some of Obama's followers aren't that happy with the ticket prices. "I love Michelle Obama, I do," a fan wrote on Twitter. "She is everything. But I am sorely disappointed in how expensive these book tour tickets are."
"Michelle Obama is out here selling Beyoncé priced tickets and I was not prepared," another wrote.
Meanwhile, there are others who seem just fine with the prices. "You don't see it every day, but she's not a typical author," said Deborah Speer, an editor for concert-industry trade magazine Pollstar. "Michelle Obama is kind of a rock star herself."
"I don't want to hear a single word about Michelle Obama's ticket prices," one fan tweeted. "She worked for this country for FREE for eight years. Get that money, Mrs. Obama."
Moreover, some of the ticket sales are going to charity as Obama and Live Nation said they will be donating 10 percent of the sales to "local charities, schools, and community groups" and giving away free tickets to fans from those organizations.
As expected, the tour has been getting so much attention and she apparently already sold out full arenas. Live Nation, the entertainment company producing the tour, added two more stops -- one in Washington and another in Brooklyn that will wrap up the tour -- due to the high demands of her supportive fans.
