$25M Lawsuit Has Drake & Future Caught Up In Negligence Claims

Another day, another music fan attempting to get money out of an artist for whatever reason…

According to RollingOut Magazine:

According to a lawsuit filed earlier this week in federal court — naming Drake and Future among a group of defendants — a woman (Jane Doe) claims she attended the rapper’s Summer Sixteen tour on Aug. 14, 2016, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the show, the concertgoer alleges that she was approached by “a man associated with Bridgestone Arena” who offered to take her backstage to meet the performers. As she followed the man — identified as Leavy Johnson — backstage, she claims he “suddenly … pushed Jane Doe to the ground and violently assaulted her, shattering her cellphone and causing severe physical and psychological injury.”

According to The Tennessean, Johnson has since been arrested, charged with rape and is currently awaiting trial.

The plaintiff argues that “each and every one of the defendants was the agent of the others in the context of the event, and, as a result, each is responsible for the conduct of the others.”

In addition, the suit argues that the defendants had a duty to ensure that their employees, agents and independent contractors did not harm concert attendees. Johnson had outstanding warrants for assault at the time of the alleged rape, per E! News. It’s for this very reason, the plaintiff believes that the arena, touring companies, security company and the performers should have known that employing Johnson would “pose an unreasonable risk to others.”

The woman is seeking $25 million in damages, plus court costs, People reports.

In 2016, Drake and Future collaborated on the Summer Sixteen tour that became the highest grossing hip-hop tour of that year, grossing more than $84 million over the course of 56 dates.

Meanwhile, neither Drake, Future, or the companies involved have publicly commented on the lawsuit.
