What would you do to see your all-time favorite band or artist perform? Set in the 90’s, watch the clever, colorful trailer below!
Outgrown is NYC-based filmmaker Sam Hicks’ debut, and is directed/co-written by Huriyyah Muhammad, founder of the Black TV & Film Collective. Hicks based Sam (Blasina Olowe) and Reggie (Howie Sheard) on his own niece and nephew, citing their enthusiasm to dream big as an inspiration for the film.
“When we ask children what they want to be when they grow up, they give you the most honest answer with no boundaries from reality. I challenge adults to keep their childlike enthusiasm, and go after their dreams with that same energy,” Hicks explains.
Last week, the film inspired countless laughs, gasps, and applause when it premiered at Gentleman Jack’s Real to Reel Festival at the Schomburg Center in Harlem, and in August will show at the Hip Hop Film Festival.
