An 11-year-old girl has been awarded Donkey Of The Day for making a false report of her “kidnapped” friend.
As the result of a YouTube challenge more than likely inspired by Carlee Russell, an 11-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with a felony.
Said 11-year-old girl, of Port Orange, Florida, thought it was a good idea to send a fake 911 text to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office saying that her 14-year-old friend was kidnapped.
Acting on the allegation that the girl saw an armed male driving a white van on I-95, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies as well as cops from nearby towns Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, and Port Orange went out and about searching for said van.
After all the time and effort that the cops had put into trying to find the white van, it (the van) was nowhere to be found.
When the cops eventually found out that the girl was playing a prank on them because she thought it “would be funny“, one of them had this to say when they caught up to her: “Stay calm. You can talk to your parents. We can open the window and let you talk to them. Nothing’s gonna happen to you, do you understand that?”
Another deputy added, “If you do something stupid in the future, you’re gonna enjoy those cuffs.”
The girl responded, “I’m not gonna do this again.”
Another deputy concluded with, “You know, this is gonna be an opportunity for you to turn this into a learning experience. This is not something you’re gonna carry with you for the rest of your life.”
Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood had this to say in a press release, “This kind of prank activity is dangerous – we’re going to investigate every incident but today it wasted valuable resources that might have helped someone else who legitimately needed our help.”
The girl has since been arrested and charged with making a false police report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner (felony) and misuse of 911 (misdemeanor).
