One person was killed and two injured in a shooting Friday evening in the North Center neighborhood, about four blocks from Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home.
The three were among 10 people shot since Friday morning in Chicago, including five in one incident late Friday evening on the West Side.
Three men or boys were shot in the 1900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue about 7:30 p.m., according to police News Affairs. One person was dead on the scene and two were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman, who said he did not immediately have any information on the circumstances of the shootings.
Two people in serious-to-critical condition were taken from the scene to Illinois Masonic following the shooting, according to the Fire Department’s news office.
A man who lives on the same block as the apartment building where the shootings took place and asked not to be identified, said he heard a commotion and people yelling outside the building about 7:30. The man said he heard a man grunting and screaming. ”
“Either in pain or really pissed off,” the resident said. “I couldn’t tell”
He then saw a man stumble out of the east side of the building near the alley, blood covering his mouth, neck and torso. Another man followed him outside and told the blood-covered man to go back into the building.
