Video: YG Throws Temper-Tantrum Over Best Rap Album Grammy Nominations

One of the most questionable outcomes of this year’s Grammy nominations was the exclusion of YG’s ‘My Krazy Life’ in the Best Rap Album category. The West Coast rapper did an interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, and he discussed his Grammy snub.

Instead of giving a nod to YG’s critically acclaimed debut LP, the Grammy committee chose to select Iggy Azalea’s ‘The New Classic’, Childish Gambino’s ‘Because The Internet’, Common’s ‘Nobody’s Smiling‘, Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’, Schoolboy Q’s ‘Oxymoron‘, & Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Blacc Hollywood’. The “My Nigga” performer feels he definitely deserved a nomination over some of those projects.

“Some of them albums is wack. My album was better than them albums,” stated YG. “I already knew I wasn’t gonna win a Grammy. They’re not gonna give me the Grammy. [I thought] they’re gonna nominate me for sure.”

YG added he felt his lack of a nomination may have had something to do with him being “from the streets” and his content reflecting that. But he also points out that he does a lot of work in the community through his non-profit organization, and that fact has been mostly ignored.

“The Grammy people ought to know I’m the people’s champ,” said YG. “They gotta recognize all that’s going on. I don’t think they really get into all that, because they don’t really care.”

While YG did not call out which nominated LPs should have been omitted from the list, he reiterated why his project should have been included.

“I really had the best rap album of 2014. All these rappers are gonna tell you that. They know,” declared YG.
