Video: G-Dep Speaks On Why He Turned Himself In

According to EURweb:

When he was only 18 years old, Trevell ‘G. Dep’ Coleman shot and killed a man in Harlem.

G. Dep admitted that he mugged and shot John Henkel back in 1993. G Dep did get away with the crime and although he had no idea his victim was dead, G. Dep says he couldn’t escape the guilt of his conscience. So in 2010, roughly 16 years after the incident, he broke down and confessed everything to the police. G. Dep was found guilty by a jury of his peers in 2012 on charges of second degree murder and is currently serving out a 15 year sentence.

G. Dep was previously signed to Bad Boy Records but shared that the weight of the murder got to him, which caused his music to suffer; and Diddy dropped him from the roster.

“It probably was the drugs,” he said. “I was just knee deep in trying to medicate myself and not feel, and numb myself to whatever I was dealing with.”

The rapper says when he went to the police to confess, the police did nothing.

“I guess he just felt like it was so outlandish, so he was like, ‘Listen, that was a long time ago. Give me your number and I’ll call you,'” Coleman said.

Two weeks later, he went back to the police to confess again.

“I think I was just at a point where enough is enough,” Coleman said. “It never went away, me thinking about it, so it was like I had to do something about it.”
