Joey Fatts is a triple threat for the rap game. He raps, produces good music, and has an undying affection for heavy artillery. Coming from the beach side city of Long Beach and the home of the legendary Snoop Dogg, Joey grew up with the idea that music might be a way out of the hood. But after many trials and tribulations it would still be a long time off before he truly believed it possible for himself. Having shot his first gun at 8 years old and growing up in the gang based shadows of his older brother and cousins, getting caught up was inevitable. Upon the urging of one of his teachers, Joey decided to focus on his schoolwork as much as he did the streets. Living somewhat of a dual life, young Fatts would excel in his academics and high school football in Los Angeles, and then take a long trip home to LBC where he would spend homeless nights in his car and showering at the homes of his friends. There was a lot of other gangster shit going on but we will leave that unsaid and unrecorded.

As the the tattoo on his arm reads, Joey now makes music “for those who come from nothing.” After linking up with his childhood friend and rapper, Vince Staples, Joey got a spark to start rapping and learned to make tracks for himself. To Joey it only made sense to do as much as he could and if given any opportunity to be in the music industry he definitely wasn’t going to waste it. Joey is always extremely confident he can make something from nothing as he has done many times before and he doesn’t hesitate getting to the point.

Within a short period of time Vince introduced Joey to A$ton Matthews, another local Long Beach rapper who also had a very distinct history in the streets having been shot in the two years prior. The two of them immediately bonded and they were soon collaborating musically and supporting each other in all aspects of life and survival. What has followed is a series of gritty and well produced mixtapes as Chipper Jones Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. A$ton Matthews’ Versace Ragz was also heavily produced and recorded by Joey as well. The music created a strong buzz in the West and soon caught the ears of A$AP founder and A&R, A$AP Yams. Once Yams made the connection on the phone he was on a plane to Los Angeles and began working on music with both Joey and Aston and began creating the foundation for his new entity, Yamborghini Records. Soon A$AP Rocky was also looking to Joey for those gritty, ambient, and 808 heavy tracks that would be the sound bed for his LP track “Jodye” as well as current work on his upcoming instrumental album.

Although still somewhat fresh out the gate, Joey Fatts seems like a good bet for success. Currently you can catch him opening up shows on the A$AP Ferg: Turnt x Burnt Tour hitting select cities across the country. –Blow Hip Hop TV
