919s & Headaches mixtape by Free Agent Jasun

Raleigh/Durham’s Free Agent Jasun tries his hand at the R&B thing (for the most part) with his new project ‘919s & Headaches‘. Before you write this off as a knock-off of The Foreign Exchange, you can get a few songs into the mixtape to realize that this ain’t no shit like that. Most of the ‘919s & Headaches‘ project sounds like Jasun actually took voice lessons (something most of today’s singers never heard of or sing like they didn’t) & put a lot of work in to make it sound the best it can sound.

The tracks that stood out to me the most were: “919s & Headaches Theme“, “Unmistakable“, “Bonita“, “Make It Better“. “919s & Headaches Theme” & “Bonita” brings that old school feel as well as introduces the world to new artist Lil’ Bob. Trie Cartier also makes an appearance on “Bonita” for Realer Music Group fans looking for features by them. “Unmistakable“, “Make It Better“, & “Bonita” has Jasun going back to his hip-hop roots for a minute for anybody looking for him to spit some verses.

Now I felt Jasun could’ve stepped it up on tracks: “Make It Better” & “Runway Music“. I felt Jasun struggled with the singing on the W2-produced “Make It Better“. Some parts of the MG The Future-produced “Runway Music” sound like they were auto-tuned (correct me if I’m wrong) & me and auto-tune are like oil & water.

All-in-all, ‘919s & Headaches‘ is a good mixtape for the listener looking for something different from the usual. The mixtape is also good for fans of King Mez & Kooley High as Mez himself and Tab-One (of Kooley High) make appearances on “Humbled“. ‘919s & Headaches‘ is now available to download below!!! -Review written by DV
