About “Cali Soul“:

Produced in collaboration with Pay Dirt Production, Da Ricanstrukta took Tupac’sCalifornia Love” sample & laced it with his own flavor, #Raplords wanted to get a West Coast feature on the mixtape at the time & the only solid connect they had out there was Blake Banks. Originally Black Lung from Rockford, he has since moved to the LA area to pursue his rap career.

As Blake was writing & recording the song his friend & popular rapper Bishop Lamont (at one point signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records) heard the track & wanted to get on it, that’s how this collaboration came about. The features were not received in time to make the mixtape & they definitely did not want to let this track collect dust, so here it is…Enjoy the #VIIDays!!!

Raplords consist of emcees Dana Coppafeel & SPEAK Easy, and their DJ/producer/engineer Mammyth. White Russian created the sample chop which provided the canvas for “Do It Again“, he is most known for his production on “Hot Shots, Part Deux” (with Action Bronson, Riff Raff, & Dana) which has generated the team over one million views. Mammyth then added much of the drum work & beat/vocal variations.

Uni-Fi Records as a label has always steered it’s artists towards building collaborative tracks & since the release of their ‘Mixtape Vol.1‘ in 2014, this has not changed. After the release of their last project, there were several songs that did not make the cut but were still favored by the team (#Raplords, consisting of Dana Coppafeel & SPEAK Easy, the emcees & Mammyth, the DJ/engineer/producer).

The mini-project ‘VII Days‘, is here to provide 7 free songs, one a day for a whole week. Presenting singles that didn’t make prior projects & other collaborative tracks that were created to recognize the individuals & groups they (#Raplords) work with, and intend to release music with for 2015 & beyond.

Each song has it’s own story & it’s own artists, so catch each one as they drop, listen, & read about how the songs came about. Learn something about the artists, and we hope that you like what you hear enough to add each to your own collection, and share with your peers.

The future shows big promise for the label as it teams up with a handful of hometown, Milwaukee-based, artists to release their works in collaboration with Uni-Fi Records through 2015. The team recognized & hand-selected these groups or individuals based on similar paths of operating & creating good hip hop music, or in some cases these relationships formed naturally from being in the same city for so damn long.
