Martin ‘Pharma Bro’ Shkreli Is The Buyer Of Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ Album

Martin “Pharma Bro” Shkreli, the “most hated man in America” that jacked-up the price of an AIDS pill more than 5,000%, recently copped Wu-Tang Clan’s million dollar album (of which only one copy exists), ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin‘.

According to Bloomberg:

Shkreli heard about ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ and thought it would be nice to own, too. He attended a private listening session at the Standard Hotel hosted by (auction company) Paddle8 co-founder Alexander Gilkes. Shkreli, who describes himself as a bit of a recluse, recalls Gilkes telling him that if he bought the record, he would have the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities and rappers who would want to hear it. ‘Then I really became convinced that I should be the buyer,’ Shkreli says.

Pharma Bro, the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, refused to speak on how much he paid for the album, but Bloomberg mentions that he copped the album for $2 million.

Wu-Tang co-founder The RZA made it clear in a statement that the deal took place “well before (Shkreli’s) business practices came to light”.

The RZA added:

“We decided to give a significant portion of the proceeds to charity.”
