In recent years, Chicago has picked up the nickname Chiraq as a result of the high rate of gun violence in the city. Acclaimed director Spike Lee is reportedly now signed on to film a movie for Amazon Studios called “Chiraq”.
According to AllHipHop.com, Kanye West, Common, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Piven are being pursued to appear in the forthcoming flick. West, Common, and Piven are all Chicago natives.
Samuel Jackson, who is expected to provide a cameo role in “Chiraq”, has a long working relationship with Lee. The Brooklyn filmmaker directed Jackson in “Do The Right Thing”, “Mo’ Better Blues”, & “Jungle Fever”. Lee’s last feature film was “Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus”.
Amazon Studios launched in 2010 as a digital video streaming service. The company’s original television programming includes “Alpha House”, “Hand Of God”, & “Mozart In The Jungle”.
