Editorial: Relativity Studios Picks Up Halle Berry Movie 'Kidnap' For US Distribution

Described as a heart-stopping action thriller, “Kidnap” will follow a mother (Halle Berry) who will stop at nothing to rescue her kidnapped son (unlike in “The Call” in which she played a 911 operator who takes it upon herself to track down a kidnapped girl).

Berry will executive produce the project with her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, via their 606 Films production banner, which she launched earlier this year to produce “socially conscious” work, in the spirit of the company’s name (after the anti-paparazzi bill that Berry pushed, which California Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law last fall).

Spanish filmmaker Luis Prieto (“Pusher”) is attached to direct, from a script penned by Knate Gwaltney.

Principal photography is set to begin this fall, with Di Bonaventura Pictures producing, and Lotus Entertainment and Gold Star Films financing the film, as well as exec producing.

Looking ahead, Relativity Studios will release Gina Prince Bythewood’s drama “Beyond The Lights” in November, “Hector and the Search for Happiness” (in theaters September 19, 2014), and author Nicholas Sparks’ “The Best of Me” (in theaters October 17, 2014).
